The Weeknd Accused Of Plagiarizing 'Call Out My Name' In New Lawsuit

The Weeknd Accused Of Plagiarizing 'Call Out My Name' In New Lawsuit

R&B superstar The Weeknd has been accused of plagiarizing his 2018 hit song "Call Out My Name."

Producers Suniel Fox and Henry Strange have filed a lawsuit claiming the singer, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, lifted elements from their 2015 track "Vibeking."

The Weeknd's collaborators on the song Nicolas Jaar and Frank Duke as well as Universal Music Group have also been named in the lawsuit.

The lawsuit claims that "Call Out My Name" "contain quantitatively and qualitatively similar material in their respective lead guitar and vocal hooks, including melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic elements distinctive to 'Vibeking.'"

They also allege that they sent a copy of "Vibeking" to Tesfaye collaborator Eric White, aka PNDA, in April 2015, in expectation of some kind of collaboration with the Weeknd.

"Call Out My Name" was released as a single, went platinum, and has since garnered over 700 million views on YouTube.

Lil Nas X Shares Dramatic 'That's What I Want' Video

Lil Nas X Shares Dramatic 'That's What I Want' Video

Rapper Lil Nas X recently released the official music video for the song "That's What I Want."

Taken from his debut album, Montero, which dropped on Friday, September 17, the music video of the song features Nas as he falls in love with a young man played by Yai Ariza at a high school football game, which he quite literally crashes into by landing onto the field from an opening in the sky.

He then proceeds to make eyes at one of his fellow team members, who later joins him in the locker room to check on his injured leg, after which things get steamy and the two boys lose themselves in the heat of the moment.

The video, a dramatic reenactment and tribute to the queer classic film, "Brokeback Mountain," then cuts to a scene by the fireside at a campsite in the hills, followed by the brutal realization that Nas makes when he visits his lover at his home to give him flowers.

Written by Lil Nas himself and directed by Stillz, the music video has garnered nearly 20 million views since its release and features among a series of music videos from the album released by the Grammy Award-winning 22-year-old.

Kanye West Pays Tribute To Late Mother In Video For '24'

Hip-Hop superstar Kanye West has released a moving tribute to his late mother and namesake of his 10th studio album, Donda, through the official music video for the track "24."

The video, which premiered on Thursday, September 16, opens with the rapper repeating the verse "He's done miracles on me" during a set in front of a lively audience at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. He then ascends into the sky and joins his mom as a video of her smiling and laughing is projected onto a gigantic globe.

Directed by Nick Knight, the video eventually finds West traveling beyond the clouds and into a black, seemingly hollow, yet infinite universe by the end of the nearly-5-minute track.

Having garnered north of 2 million views since its release last week, the video follows the music video for the song "Come to Life" on September 1, and arrives 14 years after the death of his mother in November 2007, due to surgery complications. She was 58.
