Lizzo‘s smash hit “Truth Hurts” has remained atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the second week in a row.
The singer’s first No. 1 on the chart, “Truth Hurts” is one of her seminal tracks, as she revealed in an interview with Elle that she nearly quit music soon after releasing the song in September of 2017.
“I just felt like I was throwing music into the world and not even making a splash,” the “Juice” hitmaker shared with the magazine. “A tree was falling in the forest and not making a sound, you know? I was crying in my room all day.”
Lizzo eventually reached out to her producer, who came over and talked it out with her.
“I just made the decision to keep going as an artist. And I’m so grateful I did, but it was by the skin of my teeth,” she said.
The singer joins the ranks of Beyoncé, Rihanna, Janelle Monáe, and Cardi B to become one of the few black female artist to have reached the No. 1 spot on the chart.
Having released her chart-topping 3rd studio album, Cuz I Love You earlier this year, the 31-year-old singer-rapper is currently on tour across the U.S and Europe.
